Offered program and details

  1. Degree to award:Doctor of Philosophy
  2. Duration of the study in the partner country:At least 8 months and no more than 18 months long, the total study period at both universities must exceed 24 months.
  3. Language requirement:English 。UniCa students must obtain proof of English proficiency at a level equivalent to CEFR B2 before completing the program, while TMU students must provide proof of English proficiency prior to entering the program 。

  5. Tuition :Students are required to pay the tuition fee of TMU, while the tuition fee of UniCa is waived (but a stamp duty of EUR16 per year is required). All other additional expenses, health care, travel and other related costs, accommodation and personal expenses are at students’ own expense.

  7. Selection criteria:1. Be enrolled in the Program for at least two years. 2. Have obtained at least 12 credits specified by the Program. 3.  Applicants must submit proof of English proficiency obtained within the past five years prior to the application date, demonstrating listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities equivalent to CEFR level B2 or above.. 4. Applicants must submit recommendation letters from advisors of both institutions.
  8. Number of places:From the academic year 2026/2027, the maximum number of students enrolled in the program will be 3 for each institution every year. This number may be reviewed every year at the request of one or both of the partner Institutions.

Program introduction:This program is built upon the collaborative foundation established since 2015 and aims to strengthen academic exchange in the fields of traditional herbal medicine, antiviral research, neuroscience, and cancer drug development. Under a co-supervision mechanism between the two institutions, students who complete the required study period, academic credits, qualification examination, and joint dissertation defense will be awarded doctoral degrees from both Taipei Medical University and the University of Cagliari.
  12. Career perspective:By integrating the strengths of the University of Cagliari (UniCa) in life and environmental sciences with Taipei Medical University’s (TMU) expertise in molecular oncology and drug development, this program aims to cultivate high-level professionals with international research capabilities and expertise in drug discovery and translational medicine.
